Recognized certifications include EarthCheck, Green Globe, and LEED. However, many authentic eco properties lack formal certification due to cost. Research specific practices, check out guest reviews and ask the resort themselves. For instance Ubuntu are most definitely an eco-resort/studio however have no certification because the price of the award is prohibitive. And the opposite is true also, there are some eco-resorts in name only, they have paid the price for the award but actually do the bare minimum just to get the certification. So do your research and trust your gut (or just choose one of out 10 mentioned here!)
