Things to do at and near Frans Josef Glacier

The Franz Josef Glacier (Māori: Kā Roimata o Hine Hukatere; officially Franz Josef Glacier / Kā Roimata o Hine Hukatere) is a 12-kilometre (7.5 mi) long temperate maritime glacier located in Westland Tai Poutini National Park on the West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island.

Along with the Fox Glacier, which lies 20 kilometres (12 mi) to the south, and a third glacier, it flows down from the Southern Alps to an altitude of less than 300 metres (980 ft) above sea level. The region around these two glaciers forms part of Te Wāhipounamu, a designated World Heritage Site park. The Waiho River originates from the terminal end of the Franz Josef Glacier.
