Piopiotahi (Milford Sound) Marine Reserve is one of ten marine reserves in Fiordland. This area is among the wettest in the country, receiving up to 7 meters of rain annually, and features a rugged landscape shaped by glacial activity.

Beneath the surface, the mountains extend down to depths of up to 265 meters.
