Yes, from open public viewpoints, but the ice is distant and visibility varies. Reaching or walking on a glacier requires an approved guided flight-based trip. Old photographs and old walking directions no longer represent current safe access.

Yes, by combining the TranzAlpine or a Hokitika flight with InterCity coaches and tours that collect from town. The compromise is a timetable-led route and limited access to Hokitika Gorge, Lake Kaniere, Gillespies Beach and other side trips.
